The Windrush migration

In 1947 German Nazi warship, the Monte Rosa, was captured by British forces and renamed HMS Empire Windrush. This boat carried Jamaican migrants to the UK with the promise of a new life and more job opportunities in the 'mother country'. Post-war Britain advertised cheap passage due to a dwindling workforce. The passengers were offered citizenship under the 1948 British Nationality act.
